City Profile
Opp is a welcoming community located in south-central Alabama, about 20 miles north of the Florida state line. With a population of approximately 6,700, Opp offers the charm of a small town along with strong community connections and a relaxed pace of life.
One of the highlights of our city is Frank Jackson State Park, a beautiful 2,050-acre park located within the city limits. The park features a 1000-acre lake and provides opportunities for RV camping, fishing, walking trails, and picnicking. Each fall, the community gathers for the beloved Scarecrows in the Park, where local businesses, churches, civic groups, and families line the walking trails with creative themed scarecrow displays.
Opp is also home to the long-standing Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo, a tradition that has been part of our community for more than 60 years. The event celebrates the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake and has grown into a full community festival including a 5K race, beauty pageant, the Rattler 250 stock car race at South Alabama Speedway, snake races, children’s activities, and concerts featuring country artists from Nashville.
Our community enjoys a vibrant local farmers market each Saturday during the spring, summer, and fall seasons, bringing together local farmers and families from the surrounding area. Opp is surrounded by rich farmland that continues to support the local economy.
The Opp City Schools system serves approximately 1,330 students and includes:
• Opp Elementary School (Pre-K – 4th Grade)
• Opp Middle School (5th – 8th Grade)
• Opp High School (9th – 12th Grade)
We are proud to be the home of the Opp Bobcats. One of the community’s favorite traditions is the annual Little Big Horn Marching Band Contest, hosted by the Opp High School Marching Band and attended by schools from across Alabama and North Florida.
Lurleen B. Wallace Community College-MacArthur Campus in Opp, Alabama, is a vibrant branch of the region’s public community college dedicated to accessible education and workforce development. As part of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, the MacArthur Campus offers affordable associate degrees, career and technical programs, and workforce training that help students prepare for in-demand jobs or continue their academic journey. Nestled on a spacious campus just off Main Street, it serves local students with a supportive learning environment and strong connections to the community and regional employers
Our downtown area continues to grow and features a coffee shop, doughnut shop, florists, boutiques, and local businesses. Each fall, downtown comes alive during Opp Fest, held on the last Saturday of October. The festival includes an antique car show, pie baking contest, petting zoo, live music, arts and crafts vendors, and plenty of activities for families and children.
Another perk of living in Opp is our location — the beautiful beaches of Florida’s Emerald Coast are only about 90 minutes away, making day trips to the coast an easy and popular getaway for our community.

Church Profile
Westview Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church located in Opp, Alabama. Our mission is the same mission Jesus gave His followers:
Love God. Love people. Advance His Kingdom.
We seek to live this mission by being an Acts 1:8 church, reaching our community, our region, and the world with the gospel.
Westview has over 300 active members, and on a typical Sunday between 300–350 people gather for worship.
In addition to our worship services, we offer Sunday School classes for all stages of life, including:
• Children
• Youth
• College & Career
• Young Adults
• Middle Adults
• Senior Adults
We also gather for Sunday evening worship and offer Wednesday night activities designed to help people grow in their faith and build meaningful relationships within the church.
OUR SERVICES
At Westview Baptist Church, Sunday School begins each week at 9:00 AM, followed by our 10:30 AM worship service.
Our worship services provide a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere centered on:
• Worship
• Prayer
• Biblical teaching
On Sunday evenings, choir practice begins at 5:00 PM, followed by our evening worship service at 6:00 PM.
On Wednesday nights, small-group discipleship classes for all ages begin at 6:15 PM.
WHAT MAKES OUR CHURCH UNIQUE
Deeply Rooted. Westview Baptist was organized in 1929 in a smaller location on the west side of Opp. In the 1990's, the decision was made to build a larger church that seated 700. Members who share in the rich history of the church have their own stories of how God was faithful time and time again during growth. Westview has also helped to equip the called as we have had many men to commit to ministry through the years. Pastor Shawn Bentley stated "I am very thankful for the faithful ministry of Westview Baptist Church. I was personally called by God out of this church and then equipped and supported by it throughout the beginning years of my ministry. Now, over 25 years later, I still consider my home church! What the church of Philippi meant to Paul, Westview Church means to me."
Giving. Westview is a church marked by generosity. Our members care deeply for one another and for the community around us. When there is a need — whether within our church family or beyond our walls — our people respond with open hands and willing hearts. Giving at Westview is not simply about finances; it is about time, compassion, service, and presence. We support one another through prayer & encouragement. We also seek to be a blessing to our broader community through outreach, missions, and acts of kindness. At Westview, generosity is more than something we do — it reflects who we are as followers of Christ.
Welcoming. Westview is known throughout the community as a church that truly welcomes all. We believe the love of Christ is not reserved for a select few — it is extended to everyone who walks through our doors. One member shared: “Westview was a place that I wanted to raise my children. I remember the first time we walked through the doors — the members were welcoming and excited to see us. My children are grown now, and we are so grateful for the support of our church in raising them in a Christian home. I was also drawn to the fact that Westview participated in Celebrate Recovery and supported the mission to help those with addiction. This is a church that welcomes all, not just a select few.”
Home. Westview feels like home because it mirrors the very community we serve. We are neighbors, families, and friends worshiping side by side. At Westview, church isn’t a place you attend — it’s a home where you are known, valued, and invited to grow. A member shared: “Westview has always felt like home. After moving back to Opp as a newlywed, my wife immediately felt at home too, and now we are blessed to be raising our kids in this growing church." Another member said "The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in the church and you always feel a warm welcome. That's what we noticed when we first came to Westview."
